Seb’s COPE Triathlon Training Sessions on the Prom

Meet 4 This motley team of triathletes just keeps on growing! The twenty of us were split into two groups on Monday night, one group headed down to the sea while the other hit the roads.
The cyclists took off down Grattan Rd. towards the Claddagh Hall and then back through Salthill where bikes were dropped for a quick 2 laps around the green at Leisureland – those steps are great training! It was back on the bicycles again and another round of the same until nearly 9pm when we changed into wetgear and jogged down to the beach.
The swimmers were emerging looking exerted (to say the least!) and up they went to take over from us on the bikes. We did a fast swim out and back to the green buoy then Seb teased us while acting as a live buoy so we could practise our turnaround. After about 3 sets of this it was time to call it a night but with the evening still bright and the water at quite a manageable temperature we didn’t sprint off home as fast as we normally do! At this stage everyone is getting psyched as the date for the COPE Galway tri draws nearer.
In the meantime some are going to try their athletic prowess at Seb’s triathlon in Westport this Saturday. Best of luck to everyone taking part!!
