from BHAA There was a particularly good turnout of 203 runners for the Kepak 8 mile road race on Saturday 18/04/09. The weather was good, the race was well organised and I think people really enjoyed the event. Well done and thanks to Eddie Reid, Christy O’Sullivan, Caroline Reid and the others who helped to organise the race. I know that the flyer said 8 miles, 14.3km (which don’t match) but I believe that it was 8 miles = 12.87km. Paul Buckley (Army) managed to get ahead of Gary Crossan (Mount Errigal Leisure Centre) and they were followed home by Declan Power (IBM) who had his best finish to date. Orla Gormley won the women’s category from Aine Kenny and Siobhan Carroll.

Nineteen men’s teams featured in the results. Full details are in the attached file. There is a link on the BHAA website to a large number of nice photos on Racepix365.com (a very useful site where you can find loads of photos from lots of races – BHAA, AAI etc).

Our next race is on this coming Saturday 2nd May 2009. The annual RTE 5 mile road race at Donnybrook will have a combined start at 11.00am. The finish will be on the set of Fair City.

Registration at the RTE Sport and Social Club. Go into the RTE campus from Nutley Lane and you will be directed down to the car parks near the Sports Club.

More details from Niall Mathews 2082591(w) or Jim Carraher 2084140(w).

This is always an enjoyable and popular event (and regular winner of BHAA race of the year) so make sure you turn up early to enter, particularly if you have not already registered as a BHAA member in 2009.

The race entry fees are €10 for members and €15 for non-members. Non-members are encouraged to sign up as members and this costs only €15 for the year. Being a member means

(a) you don’t have to fill in a form every time you come to a race;

(b) the production of results after a race is quicker as all your details are already in the member database; and

(c) you will be eligible for team prizes (after your first race as a member) even if you are the only one from your organisation in the BHAA because of the group teams based on employer/business type.

So get there early on Saturday or sign up for membership only online on the BHAA website www.bhaa.ie.

Remember online membership applications must be in 48 hours before the race.
After RTE, we have some great variety with races on grass track (Trinity), road (Intel) and beach (ESB). I have attached a copy of the calendar for 2009 in case you missed it earlier in the year.
Bye for now.

See you Saturday.
