St.Patricks Day. A record 360 athletes lined up on St. Patricks Day for the annual 10K in Tubbercurry, hosted by South Sligo athletic club.

On a blustery day , the showers thankfully stayed away for the race and last year’s runner up EamonnMc Andrew from Sligo Triathlon Club took an early lead which he was able to maintain to the line , taking the honours in a time of 32.19.Roger Barrett from Mayo AC was second, just 6 seconds adrift with Tristan Druet a local man third at 33:11. A close ladies race was won by Carina Clarke from Sligo AC (40:10) with just 10 seconds separating her from Paula Prendergast of Mayo AC in second , while third was Lucy Brennan representing Sligo AC just 2 seconds further back. Mayo AC took the Team prize for the men’s race while North Sligo AC won the Female Team event. A junior 1K run took place also. Afterwards Killorans (where the race started in 1973),was overflowing for the presentation of prizes as well as refreshments for all . The large number of local entrants was no doubt bolstered by the Fit for Life league run by South Sligo AC, and great help was provided by members in terms of stewarding and catering. This race is the first in the Sligo Road race league, a series of races from now until September.
