PREDA’s 5k “Run for Freedom” 2014 PREDA is a Philippines based children’s charity which strives to free children from adult prisons and child exploitation. This is our third 5k "Run for Freedom" and we look forward to your support again this year as it does make a difference not only to your fitness levels but to the lives of the children we rescue. Last year we had over three hundred entrants who all enjoyed the course which has been described by athletics legend and PREDA supporter Catherina McKiernan as being a "flat, fast and enjoyable course suitable for every level of runner”. We are delighted to receive the support of Catherina again this year and she will be joined by one of Ireland’s leading comedians Maeve Higgins and members of the victorious Galway All-Ireland winning Senior and Intermediate camogie squads. PREDA’s 5k "Run For Freedom" will take place at the famed Ballybrit Racecourse in Galway on Saturday the 1st of March 2014 at 12pm. Online registration on www.runireland.com is now open. Registration takes place in front of the main stand from 10am on the morning of the run. The run will be on the road surrounding the race track and will consist of two 2.5k laps. The run is being organised by volunteers so all the profits will be used to help with the rehabilitation of the rescued children and also to help promote the message of PREDA to a wider audience nationally. PREDA is also assisting with the typhoon relief effort in the Philippines and has a team of social workers assisting children who have lost their family in the natural disaster. A comedy night for PREDA begins at 8pm that evening ‘Fun for Freedom’ in The Roisin Dubh features Maeve Higgins with The Sunday Times describing her as being ‘Like a Shakespearian court jester, her daftness masks perceptive truth-telling’. Support act Gearoid Farrelly has been called ‘The next big thing in comedy’ by The Irish Independent. Tickets cost €18 (special reduction for Freedom Runners!) Available from The Roisin Dubh and OMG, Shop Street or online at https://www.roisindubh.net/gig-details.html?listingID=5168 It promises to be a fun event affording you the opportunity to run with Catherina, rub shoulders with All Ireland winners and meet Maeve, the comedian who brought us “Naked Camera” while also running for the freedom of children we support at PREDA.
