“A three way trip past all the limits” 20 years after it was first held the Portaferry Triathlon returns.
Held for 4 years in the sunniest part of N.ireland until 1993 the former ITU World cup race.returns.

Hawaii Ironman winners and ITU world champions Karen Smyers and Greg Welch have raced here along with 2 times winner Garret McGarthy Irelands most successful triathlete.

 The swim from Strangford across the largest, deepest, most tidal sea lough in Ireland and GB is one of
 

the most challenging in Triathlon. It a spectacular sight and a great acheivement on its own.
 

Athletes are transported by Ferry to the race start for the 1km swim following this the athletes complete a 4 lap 42km cycle including climbling Windmill hill then on to a coastal run with spectacluatr views of the Mourne mountains and Strangford lough.
 

The original race organisers World 70.3 age group champion Desi McHenry and Neill Grainger will both competing this year along with athletes from all over Ireland.
