Pirate Queen Adventure Race

0

The Pirate Queen Adventure Race 2014 is part of the Festival of the Pirate Queen held during the weekend of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of May. This festival is a celebration of the life of Grace O’Malley / Granuaile, Clew Bay’s infamous 15th / 16th century pirate who lived a life of piracy and prominence in a male dominated time. The festival is taking place all around Clew Bay from Clare Island to Louisburgh to Westport and Achill.
The Pirate Queen Adventure Race is only part of the line up for the weekend on Clare Island. In keeping with the theme of the festival, Clare Island is hosting a Women’s Wellness Weekend which will incorporate a talk by Ciara Cullen of Clare Island Retreat Centre, the PQ Adventure Race itself, yoga session by Christophe of the Clare Island Retreat Centre, a talk on female empowerment, a light guided walk of Clare Island and of course, the after party at Sailor’s Bar.
This year the Adventure Race is open to male participants also, as many couples may wish to participate, however the emphasis is on the female participants with no prizes for males.
