– Day 1 T&F Results Apologies to everyone for only getting the results for Day 1 of Olympian Y&AC Open Track & Field Competition which was held in Templemore Sports Complex, Derry last Saturday. A copy of the Day 1 results are attached.
A cold start to day 1 of the inaugural Olympian Y&AC Open Winter Track and Field Competition did not seem to cool the competitive edge of some athletes in attendance, with some hotly contested events in the Under 9, 11 and 13 age groups. The attendance of clubs and athletes from Donegal at Day 1 of the Competition, in particular the strong attendance from Lifford AC, made for a good day of athletics not normally held during the traditional cross country season.
On behalf of Olympian Youth & Athletic Club I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the clubs and athletes that supported the Competition. In addition an even bigger thank you to the officials without whom the competition could not have been run, to all our volunteer officials (the parents and the older athletes from the club who would’ve liked to compete themselves, sorry), the Order of Malta, the club members who provided the refreshments, Derry City Council and everyone else who helped out with the smooth running of the programme and the day.
Again thanks to everyone for coming and we look forward to seeing youse all, and maybe a few more, at Day 2 of the Competition. For your records Day 2 has been rescheduled for Sunday 13th January 2013 which is well positioned to give athletes a good run out and set a benchmark before both the Ulster Juvenile and Senior Indoor Championships and the All Ireland Masters Championships. A programme of events for Day 2 will be sent out to everyone in due course and will be posted on our website as well.
Yours in sport,
Martin O’ Donnell
