from Triathlon Ireland Over 900 competitors descended on the Phoenix Park today for the Triathlon Ireland Olympic Distance National Championships. The event was a fantastic success and its smooth operation is a credit to organising club Piranha. The weather was changeable at best, and the greasy conditions made for some challenging bike handling out on the course.

First home in the National Olympic Distance Championship was Triathlon Ireland High performance athlete Gavin Noble in a time of 1hr 56’44". Second home was Bryan McCrystal (1hr 59’51") from Bjorn Ludick (2hr 00’36").

In the Womens event, the National Championship went to a flying Joyce Wolfe in a time of 2hr 15’51". Wolfe is preparing to take on the Hawaii Ironman in Kona later in the year. Second home was prolific podiumer Elena Maslova (2hr 17’18") from Aoife O’Connor (2hr 22’56").

In the Sprint event, the honours were taken by Alan Rhatigan in a time of 54’39". The second and third places went to Triathlon Ireland Junio Development Squad members Gavin Doran (55’49") and Connor Rooney (58’51") respectively.

The Womens Sprint race was won by Ailbhe Carroll in a time of 1hr 01’18" from Judith Lowry (1hr 04’10") and Emma Sharkey (1 hr 04’35").
