from B.H.A.A Hello all
We had two great races at Cherryfield Park on Saturday. Conditions were very good, although a bit cold. The course was a nice challenge, relatively flat but a bit of a climb up near the M50. Remarkably, the surface was very firm, in stark contrast to the mudbath that was Tymon Park the previous week.
There were two high quality fields, with a great turnout for the women’s race in particular. There was a long duel between Annette Kealy (Law Library) and Caitriona Jennings (PWC) with Caitriona breaking clear on last lap to take the honours. Lorraine Manning (Garda) was in third.
In the men’s race, Rob Connolly (Millrace Court) and Tommy Evans (all the way from Kilkenny County Council) fought it out with Rob just holding on after a strong finish. Last week’s winner, Tom Hogan (Hogan Print), was third.
Results are attached.
The race organisers from Eircom put in a great effort to make a fine event. Our thanks to Kevin Donoghue, Derek Quinn, Jim Aughney and Phelim Glynn (who are the ones I recognised) and to their colleagues whose names I don’t know. We should also note that the organisers thanked particularly the E-services and Communications Credit Union for their sponsorship of prizes.
At the refreshments afterwards, Declan Horgan appealed to members to make themselves available to assist at races. There are requirements for registration, stewarding, catering etc – not all of which would prevent you from running in the race. Offers of availability and enquiries to Declan at volunteers@bhaa.ie.
There were a couple of glitches in the results system on Saturday that have been resolved but if you spot any errors, let me know.
There is no BHAA race next weekend – the Raheny Shamrock 5 mile road race is on next Sunday – so our next race will be the North County Farmers cross-country races at Swords on Saturday 6 February 2010 at 11.30am (combined start). The women’s race will be 2.5 miles and the men’s race will be 5 miles. North County Farmers is not a company but a very small group of local farmers, led by Paul Barnwall, who get together to put on this race. This might be a good opportunity to volunteer if you are available.
That’s all for now. Enjoy your running.
