The walk
Keeper Hill, Slabh Coimealta – the mountain of guarding, stands near the Silvermines, but alone, at a majestic 694m., the 117th. highest in Ireland. It is magnificent to walk this mountain and see the 360 degree views from the top, being a night walk near the full moon will make this spectacular. The walk from Doonane trailhead to the summit is approximately 8 km. each way with an ascent of nearly 550 m.. This is requires a medium levels of fitness. It will start at 7.30 PM ie this is a night-time walk, commencing at the Doonane car park trailhead, 2 km from Toor in the Newport direction. Guides and walk leaders will be available, all must register, all individuals must check in and out, families and groups will be responsible for their own checking. Please be sure to do this as it will be essential for safety.
