Monaghan Phoenix host top class field in 1st Annual Monaghan 10 Miler. None
Monaghan 10 Miler
The Monaghan 10 Mile Road Race took place last Sunday around the roads of Monaghan and Ballinode. The event, organised by Monaghan Phoenix Athletic Club was deemed a huge success with a top class field from around the Ireland and beyond taking part. The event was won by Patrick Cassidy in 52:58 who led from the start in supreme fashion. Karl Kildea who ran 54:47 gave chase, but could not close down Cassidy who had a sizeable lead from early on. Brian Coleman who ran 55:40 came home in 3rd place. On the female side, the top class field was led home by Helena Crossan in 1:01:51. Monaghans’ own Donna Evans finished 2nd in 1:06:55 with Josephine Killeen finishing 3rd in 1:08:22. This was the first running of the “Monaghan 10 miler” which also encompassed a 4 mile fun run won by Patrick Murphy and Amy Hamill. It would not have been possible to run the event without support from our sponsors. We would like to thank the Four Seasons Hotel for providing the superb facilities for the event, as well as providing prizes to the winners. We would also like to thank Monaghan County Council and the HSE for their kind support. We would to recognise and thank all the stewards and officials whose tireless efforts over the past few months came to fruition with a very successful event. We aim to make this an annual event based on the feedback and success of this inaugural event.
Monaghan Phoenix will next be hosting the Streets of Monaghan 5K on Friday 2nd September at 7:30 from St Louis Convent, Monaghan. Registration will be open from 6:00. This promises to be another big event and all are encouraged to take part.
