Press Release 10 & 5 Mile Sunday 17th August The Monaghan 10 & 5 mile road race will be taking place on 17th August 2014. This is the 4th year of this prestigious event and following last years success it is fast becoming part of the athletes calendar locally and nationally. A large number of athletes and athletic clubs from Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland participated in the event last year and the winning athlete, Freddy Kieron Stuk, an international athlete from Kenya went on to win the Belfast city marathon last April.

The event features a 10 mile road race through Monaghan Town then out to the picturesque Ballinode Village and back to Monaghan via Milltown. This course is regarded as relatively flat with some small rolling inclines. The race starts and finishes at Coral Leisure Centre, Clones Rd, Monaghan and for each participate the centre is providing changing facilities, a free swim and the use of its sauna and steam room. Each participant also receives a medal and a goody bag, filled to excess with a lot more than just adverts. Chip timing and accurately measured.

For the spectators we have music and entertainment at Coral Leisure Centre, and as the centre celebrates it’s birthday they are holding a strongman competition afterwards. Definitely a great day out for all.
