Maynooth Kilcock Lions Club are organising a Fun Run on the 10th May at 10.30 am around the grounds of the old campus in Maynooth College. The money for the Fun Run will go towards the ASIST suicide intervention programme.
Each year approximately 400 people die by suicide. This is higher than the number of road deaths. ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) is a training programme for people that look after young people (teachers, youth leaders, team managers etc. This programme provides them with the skills to be able to identify those who might be a risk and to know how best to intervene to prevent the immediate risk of suicide. The ASIST programme is the most advanced suicide prevention programme in the world.
In Maynooth we intend to train 50 carers in our initial programme.
This will be a fun event for all the family!
