from Andrew McDonagh The Great Limerick Run is a sporting event that is unique to Ireland. It is the first ever time that a 10K, half marathon and a certified full marathon have been held in the same location in one day and will be the most exciting event on the Irish running calendar in 2010.
The race is benchmarking itself against the very best of Irish and International marathons and part of that will – hopefully! – be the provision of pacemakers at both the half and full marathon distances. And that’s where you could come in…
Have you run at least three marathons / half marathons? Have you got a recent personal best that is between 15 and 30 minutes faster than the band you’d like to pace? Will you be race fit on the May Bank Holiday weekend?
Being a pacer is a unique challenge, even for the most experienced runner. The need to keep a consistent pace from start to finish, to hold the eager back at the start and cajole the fading athletes home towards the end, the need to be upbeat and confident as you tire yourself. But all of it is worth it for the feeling of helping people to literally achieve their running goals. The gratitude you’ll get from your fellow runners at the end makes it all worth-while. And in return for your help we’ll pay your race entry fee, provide hotel accommodation for two nights if you are from outside Limerick, cover €50 expenses and of course your race goody bag and t-shirt.
So if you think you’re up to the challenge drop a mail to pacer@flexability.ie listing the following:
– Your name
– Your telephone number
– Your location
– Number of half / full marathons run
– Most recent half / full marathon race date and result
We’re looking forward to hearing from you!
Regards,
Andrew McDonagh
