Entry Fee:
10 Mile Event (over 16’s only)-€15 before 8th May or €20 on the day.
5k Fun Run/Walk- €5 (over 16’s); €3 (under 16’s) U 12’s must be accompanied by an adult.
Refreshments served after both events in Villierstown Hall.

This event is not only for elite athletes in fact the organizers would like to encourage as many ‘non-elite’ runners as possible. If you are not quite up to the 10 mile challenge yet why not set yourself a target of getting into shape for walking or running the 5k event. This will surely be a great occasion for all of the family and it will also give you the chance to raise funds for John’s nominated charity ‘Concern’.
Run (or walk) in the Footsteps of a Champion!
This coming May 17th 2009, why not take the opportunity to run in the footsteps of former World Champion and Olympic Silver medalist John Treacy. It is 30 years since the Waterford native’s famous victory in the 1979 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Limerick, becoming one of a handful of athletes to actually retain the title which he had claimed the previous year in Edinburgh. Fast forward 5 years after the Limerick victory and who could possibly forget that amazing silver medal performance in the 1984 Olympics held in sunny Los Angeles.
John’s legendary athletic achievements have rightly placed him in the pantheon of Irish sporting greats and in 2009 Waterford County Council, Waterford Sports Partnership, West Waterford Athletics Club and Waterford Athletics Club along with John’s local community will pay tribute to one of Waterford’s sporting icons by holding the inaugural John Treacy 10 Mile Classic and 5k Fun Run/Walk in his home village of Villierstown, Co. Waterford in his honour.
