from Donore Harriers website Today (8/11/09) saw two Donore athletes represent Ireland at the Mol international Lotto cross country series in Belgium. John Travers ran a superb race taking gold in the Junior Men’s event, He finished comfortably ahead of the field completing the course in over 7 seconds ahead of Jesper van der Wielen of the Netherlands who took silver.
Lee van Haeften who ran in the same race and finished up in 24th position – a very respectable position in what was a tough field. It was a significant achievement to be selected for the event (both for the athletes and their coach John Downes), and Donore is very proud of their performances.
Back home Donore athletes were out in force in Dublin and Tullamore. At the Meet and Train in Griffeen Park in Lucan Aoife Rickard ran extremely well finishing in 3rd position – her best placing to date. She was closely followed by team members Bridget Kiely in 8th, Eileen Walsh in 14th and Marianne Dunleavy in 19th. A total 22 Donore athletes and 4 teams were represented at the Meet and Train.
In Tullamore the Leinster Intermediate Cross Country took place where 7 women took part. Aedin Corr finished in 6th place, Cindy Hickey in 7th, Barbara Murray 24th, Maura Kearns 26th, Louisa Nesbitt 27th, Cliodhna Carty 28th and Jill Dempsey 29th.
At Marley Park the juveniles athletes were in action. The Uneven age jdublin Juvenile championships were held in Marley Park and the club were very well represented there. We had lots of good performances, the best being Eric Keogh’s 3rd position in the mens U19 where he ran a very good race. Our U17 boys came very close to getting a team medal .
