from Donore Harriers website With the announcement of John Travers as 1st reserve in the Junior Men’s European Cross Country Championships and 3 medals at the Dublin Intermediates, it has been a very successful week on the Donore front.
On Tuesday the teams for the European Championships were announced, and despite a dissapointing run at the Inter Counties qualifier John Travers has been selected as 1st reserve on the Junior team. The selection reflects John’s talent and dedication over recent years; as well as a men’s team that is growing in strength and experience. It is a wonderful honour for John and great pride for the club.
Saturday saw the ‘old style’ cross country be held at the Ward by the BHAA, and many Donore athletes took part in the grueling conditions. There were some very good results among the women and men Donore members. In the men Ken Norgrove was 7th, Simon Meyler 9th, Fred Kiernan 20th; and Dave Hudson 94th. In the women’s, Jennifer O’Keefe was first in the W40 category, following on from a great 2nd placing the week before.
Then on Sunday, in the Dublin Intermediates at Tymon Park the women continued their strong season taking the team bronze medal. There were also superb performances by Cindy and Aedin Corr who took individual silver and bronze respectively. The other placings were as follows: Maura Kearns 15th; Barbara Murray 19th; Aoife Rickard 20th; Bridget 27th; Jill Dempsey 28th; Clare 40th; Mary Murphy 44th; Patricia 50th; and Joan 55th. Well done to everyone.
