Over 1000 runners and walkers took part Last Sunday’s Jingle Bells 5K in the Phoenix Park which proved to be a great success. Conditions were pretty windy again this year for what was the 17th Annual race, but at least the rain stayed off. Derek Mooney from RTE, once a member of Donore, was the official starter for the event getting the race underway at 11am.
The Men’s race was won by Paul Flemming of Rathfarham in a time of 15.21 followed by Thomas Fitzpatrick, Tallaght AC (15.27) with a great run by David Flynn of Clonliffe Harriers in 3rd (15.31). The Ladies race was won by Rosemary Ryan, Bilboa AC in 17.42. Susan Byrne of Raheny Shamrocks was 2nd (17.48) and Lorraine Manning, Civil Service AC in 3rd (18.05). Congratulations to them all.
Donore Harriers teamed up with DEBRA Ireland for the day to help raise funds and awareness for the charity. DEBRA Ireland (the Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa Research Association) was set up by families of children with EB to help support sufferers of the disorder and their families.
