from Triathlon Ireland website Triathlon in Ireland has again been given a great boost in the form of the Irish Sports Council Core Grant award. A total award of 155,000 euro has been granted to the core running of the organisation and participation programmes, which in the current economic climate is a significant increase. This award demonstrates the continued support for Triathlon by the Irish Sports Council, representing large year on year funding increases from three years ago, when we were not on any funding scheme. Our partnership with the ISC has assisted the large growth in the sport, both at a participation level and our new High Performance programme. Triathlon Ireland would like to thank the Irish Sports Council for their continued assistance in developing our sport.
We are awaiting decisions on other funding applications.
We have been awarded:
70,000 – Core funding of the organisation
85,000 – Women in sport participation programmes
We have achieved large increases on this scheme over the last three years. From a position of having no core funding we are now at a point where we can make some real progress in developing and growing Triathlon in Ireland.
Quotes on the core grant:
Ossie Kilkenny, Chairman of the Irish Sports Council commented; “The work of the Governing Bodies is essential to the sports sector. There is outstanding work being carried out by them all and we have sought to protect those sports that are most reliant on our funding. We want to pay tribute to Minister Martin Cullen who has been strongly supportive of our work and he has ensured that we can continue investing in the sports of Ireland”.
John Treacy, Chief Executive of the Irish Sports Council, commented: “€13 million is a significant investment is these sports. The sports organizations understand the financial situation and are committed to the continuing provision of excellent services to the sports community in 2009”.
