 Ireland finished seventh of the 12 teams at the European Team Championships in Tallinn, Estonia today to match their highest ever placing finishing achieved last year in Dublin.
Ireland amassed 253.5 points in the competition which was won by Belarus with 302.5 points, Norway second and Finland third which earns all three promotion to the next year’s Super League.
Ireland were the strongest of the 12 countries on the track after fielding one of its strongest teams in recent years and had several wins during the two-day competition.
Thomas Barr won the 400m Hurdles, Brian Gregan took the 400m, Mark English won the 800m and Paul Robinson triumphed the 1,500m.
Fionnuala Britton (Kilcoole AC) finished second in the 5000m in 15.23.37 with Dulce Felix of Portugal winning in 15.21.32.
Britton’s time was well inside the needed qualification standard of 15.30 for the European Track and Field Championships in Zurich in August.
