from BHAA If you were not running in the Dublin marathon recently, things have otherwise been a bit quiet on the racing front but there is lots happening now.
In the Dublin marathon, lots of BHAA members took part and many of you finished with category prizes and /or personal bests. Congratulations to all who ran. Here are a few times that I spotted – Peter Mooney 2.35; Dave Byrne 2.36; Ed McEntee M40 2.41, Gerry O’Connell 2.43 and first M50; Paul Moran M45 2.44; Martin Francis M50 2.50; David Gargan 2.56; Vinnie Clohisey M55 3.15 and the indefatigable Dave Brady, having recently turned 60, romped home in 3.25.
There were some great achievements among the women too: Lorraine Manning 2.46; Lucy Darcy 2.52 and first F40; Mary Jennings 3.18 and first F55; Deirdre Fitzsimons W40 3.40; Peig Dunne W35 3.58.
Many BHAA members were out there supporting and involved in the race organisation – don’t forget that the Dublin Marathon was set up by the BHAA and put on for the first time in 1980.
Our next race is the Bank of Ireland beach race and will be happening on Saturday next 13 November 2010 on Dollymount Strand at 11.30am. This is a 6km race with two laps of an out and back course with a combined start for men and women. Registration and refreshments at the Sea Scouts hall just past the wooden bridge. If you are bringing your car, please park on the beach itself in order to avoid congestion near the bridge and hut.
The beach race will start promptly at 11.30am because many runners will be continuing on to Santry afterwards where the British and Irish cross-country international will be held on Saturday also. Because of the home venue, competition for places was particularly intense this year. I haven’t seen the team selections but the following did well in the trial race (the Gerry Farnan MSB race in the Phoenix Park recently): Mick Traynor M45, Tom O’Connor M50, Gerry O’Connell M50; Pat Collins M60; Lucy Darcy F40; Helen White F45; Orla Gormley F45; Mary Jennings F55; June Comiskey F65 and Ann Woodlock F70. Hopefully they will all be running on Saturday and if you get a chance, you should go along and give them a bit of support straight after the Dollymount race. We wish all of the Irish teams the very best of luck on Saturday.
The next BHAA cross-country race will be the NSRT/SMART race on Saturday 27 November 2010 at St. Margaret’s with registration at the local GAA Club. This is a new location this year but it will, no doubt, be a very enjoyable event. You can enter in advance on runireland.com.
And a note for your diary – the BHAA AGM will be held on Monday 06 December 2010. More details later.
That’s all for now.
