from Donore Harriers website We had a good turnout from our club members at the Rathfarnham 5k, a lot of our runners today were getting ready for the cross country season and sharpening up the legs over the fast 5k distance, the course in Rathfarnham is well known to be one of the best 5k courses for a pb and that proved to be the case with a lot of our runners yesterday.
Gavin Keogh was our first runner home in 16.14 (pb) not far off the 16 mins barrier followed by Sam Allen in 16.28 and Oisin Fitzgibbon in 17.12. Barbara Cleary had a superb run to finish 3rd woman in 16.32, it was no surprise considering her form over the last few months. She was followed in by Dervila Holmes who stormed home with yet another pb of 18.17, rapidly improving Íde Ní Dhomhnaill in 18.39 (pb) and Sinead Lambe who smashed her previous best with 18.54. Des Gill was next in 19.39 followed by Barbara Murray who ran 19.54 not long after a 5k in Monaghan on Friday night where she ran 19.25. Next in was the fast improving Breda Mahoney 20.07 (pb) and Samantha Conroy in 20.12. Chasing all the gang down was the indomitable Jim McNamara who just missed the 21 min barrier with 21.06. Michele Murphy had a very impressive run in 23.03 and well done to club stalwarts Tom Halton who ran in 24.37 and Betty Kehoe who ran in 27.51. Well done everybody and it was a particularly good show of force from our ladies section today and great credit goes to Jim Mac and the consistent hard work he is putting in to coaching the women’s group.
In the Star of the Sea cross country in Louth we had just one representative from the club Terry Mee who finished 4th in the O60 category. We also had Emmet O Bríain who travelled south for Charleville Half Marathon and completed the race in a very impressive 79.32.
