Gatorade Dublin City Triathlon shaping up to be the race of the season with celebrities and national contenders! Piranha Triathlon Club is delighted to announce that the Gatorade Dublin City Triathlon has sold out once again this year.

There will be two races of different distances on Sunday 28th August in the Phoenix Park Dublin, which will see circa 930 excited first timers, celebrities and triathletes line up at the start line. The celebrities taking part, to raise money for charity, are Keith Duffy from Boyzone, and Today FM have put forward an Olympic relay team made up of three of their presenters – Jenny Kelly doing the swim, Ray Darcy doing the cycle and Matt Cooper completing the run. The Super Sprint distance consists of a 600m swim down the River Liffey, a 16km cycle around the Phoenix Park roads and a cross country run, also through the capital’s park. The Olympic distance, aimed at the more seasoned triathletes, will consist of a 1500m swim up and down the River Liffey, a 40km cycle in laps around the park and a 10km cross country run.

The men’s entry list for this year’s National Series race reads like a who’s who of triathlon in Ireland. The top five athletes of the National Series will be lining up on the start line on Sunday 28th August, making it a seriously competitive race. Incredibly, six of the starters have won seven National Series races this year between them. Some of the names to look out for will be: • Bjorn Ludick who currently leads the national series standings (winner of TriAthy Olympic & Dunmore East “Hook or by Crook” Sprint triathlon) • Shane Scully – winner of North Tipp sprint triathlon • Andrew Kavanagh – winner of Valentia sprint triathlon • Kevin Keane – winner of Brian Boru sprint triathlon & Lough Hyne Challenge olympic triathlon • Craig Longmore – recent winner of the Caroline Kearney olympic triathlon David Richardson and Wayne Reid, who are currently placed 2nd and 4th in the National series standings have also entered. “I think we can look forward to an exciting and very competitive race at the front end. In the Ladies sisters Amy and Joyce Wolfe will be back from racing in the ITU Sprint World Championships in Lausanne, and there are sure to be strong contenders for honours at the Gatorade Dublin City Triathlon. Throughout the field there are very competitive age groupers and with such a big entry there are large numbers in each age group, so again we should see some great racing at all levels, ages and abilities,” commented John Wallnutt, race director of Gatorade Dublin City Triathlon. This year’s event takes place on Sunday 28th August. Friends, family and the general public are invited to attend and cheer on the participants.
