Ferrybank AC produced a fantastic performance today in the European Club Championships in Belgrade to finish second overall and gain promotion to the Division One for 2012
. The Solvakian Team was the overall winner with 97 points, Ireland (Ferrybank 91 points) and France third with 90 points. There was some terrific performances throughout the team with Kelly Proper winning the women’s 100m, Jessie Barr running 58.19 in the 400m hurdles to achieve the European U23 qualification standard and Ciara Giles Doran, who competed in the 200m as a guest ran 24.64 which is well inside the EYOF standard.
Clonliffe Harriers, who were without some of their top athletes including Mark Kenneally, Brian Gregan and Dave Flynn were unable to improve on their fifth place position of last year finishing further down the field. However there was some promising performances by David Fitzmaurice who finished third in the 3000m and John Fagan who ran a personal best in the 400m hurdles of 52.38 close to the U23 standard.
