from RTE sports website Irish Olympian Martin Fagan will join a world-class field in New York on 16 May for the Healthy Kidney 10K road race in Central Park, organisers announced on Tuesday.
Patrick Makau of Kenya will defend his title while New York Road Runners president and CEO Mary Wittenberg also announced as entrants two-time ING New York City Marathon champion Marilson Gomes dos Santos of Brazil, and US Olympians Abdi Abdirahman and Anthony Famiglietti.

US-based Fagan is enjoying a standout year having won the Austin Half Marathon in Texas in January before breaking John Treacy’s long-standing Irish national half-marathon record when finishing fifth in The Hague at the Fortis City-Pier-City Half-Marathon, 1:00:57.

Fagan, currently training in Flagstaff, Arizona, also set a personal best over 10,000m when he clocked 27:58.48 in California at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational meet at the end of April.

‘Martin continues a legacy of Irishmen of running in New York,’ Wittenberg said. ‘His rapid rise toward the top of the distance running ranks makes him a leading contender in the Healthy Kidney 10k.’
