European Duathlon Championships are coming to Limerick from April 15th to 17th 2011. There will be three events running throughout this weekend – Elite Race, European Age Group Championships and the Open race. All three events will take the form of a Run-Cycle-Run in varying distances and will get the rare chance to race through the streets of Limerick on closed roads
Anyone can enter the Open race on Sunday 17th April as an individual or relay team of two (one biker, one runner) or three (runner one, biker, runner two). If the race distance of 3km run/20km bike/3km run are too much for you use the event as a target for a group of friends to have fun and get fit and enter as a relay. There will be prizes for the top winners as well as t-shirt, goody bag and medal for all. For every entry a donation will be made to St. Gabriel’s School and Centre in Limerick.
The Elite race will include many of the top Olympic and elite athletes from all over Europe. The Age Group athletes will be coming from all parts of Europe and will have to qualify at their national selections. These athletes will complete the 10km run/40km bike/5km run distances. This will be an opportunity for people to see top European athletes competing at a high level in their own city and country.
The programme of events allows participants, whether seasoned athletes or just looking to get fit, the opportunity to be a part of this European sporting event through participating, volunteering or supporting.
