Runaway chicken launches Dublin Simon Fun Run Last week a giant chicken was spotted on the loose in St. Stephen’s Green decked out in a pair of brightly coloured running shoes amid a frenzy of excitement and bubbles. The Dublin Simon Community’s resident chicken, Cocky Balboa, was being chased through the park by Dublin Senior footballer Kevin Nolan, models Sheona Harding, Ash Quinn, and a team of giggling children at the launch of the 27th annual Dublin Simon Community Fun Run.
The Fun Run is the longest running charity event in the Phoenix Park and a big day out in Dublin’s calendar. Over 3,000 participants and spectators are expected to turn up to this year’s event on October 9th for the legendary five mile race through the park. Participants can arrive in fancy dress; there will be two children’s races for the little ones, goodie bags for all and prizes galore.
Every year the Dublin Simon Community works with over 2,000 individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in their 13 services across the city. This year Dublin Simon aim to have 2,000 sponsored participants in the Fun Run; that’s one runner, to match every person they help!
