About the Carers Association and Coole Puc Fada Committtee
Founded in 1987, The Carers Association is the national voluntary organisation of
Family Carers in the home. The Carers Association combines the role of advocate
and lobbyist for Carers with a range of services – from training to respite – to help
improve the quality of life for Family Carers and the people they provide care to.
Family Carers ensure that our children and adult relatives (of all ages) receive the
special and intensive primary care supports they need, particularly for those with
special needs or disabilities and also for those who are extremely frail or terminally
ill. This enables cared for persons to remain living with their families in their own
homes and communities for longer periods than would otherwise be possible.
The Westmeath branch was opened in 1999 and is reliant on fundraising by the
local community to support respite and other initiatives that enable Family Carers to
continue caring in the home.
That is why the people of Coole/Whitehall have elected a committee to
host events such as the upcoming Sponsored Walk, Table Quizzes and
Dance in the Coole Hall on the next June Bank Holiday to raise funds to
help local Carers keep their beloved people where they want to be – in
their own homes.
Towns and villages all over Ireland are now putting their very important shoulders
to the wheel in order to help Family Carers. All donations are used to provide much
needed service to support Carers – Carers who save the State in excess of €4 billion
every year!
