Road Runners Winter League returns January 8

from Munster Express website You’ve had enough reheated turkey and ham, stuffed yourself with chocolate Roses and smoked salmon. There’s only one thing for it. Dust off the runners and get back out on the road tomorrow night for the second half of the winter league. Mid-point

With 6 runs remaining, there is still plenty of time for progression, whether that means running the full thing without stopping or improving from 50mins to 48 mins. By now the hardest work will be done and (apart from carrying a turkey belly the first week!) it should just be a matter of going out and enjoying yourself each week from now on.

Reminder

It’s hard to comprehend that after 6 weeks some people actually don’t know the league is based on a handicap system, despite the countdown to start and the sheets up inside and out with your start time! So, to reiterate, you do not decide your own start time and you do not go off at the start time you were given the first night. You will have improved since then and your handicap would have changed significantly, so please, please watch out for the rather large sheets with your start time or handicap printed on them!

We have also noticed a lot of people changing their handicaps to suit themselves. We will not be facilitating these changes anymore, unless of course the fault lies with ourselves. You notice delays sometimes in getting the results onto www.waterfordac.com.

A lot of the time this is due to us trying to figure out how someone could have finished in 10mins based on their correct handicap. With over 1000 entrants, we really can only cater for the masses, who by and large stick to the guidelines. Please bear this in mind.

No vest, no run

Again, safety is a priority, so no vest, no run. If you arrive at the start line with no viz vest, we will ask you to go back inside and get one from Kathleen upstairs, or to not run at all. We have no problem letting people borrow a vest for the night if needs be, but again, we will be clamping down on non-wearers for the second half.

Date for the diary

It may seem like a long way off, but do pencil in February 12th for the final run and prizegiving night.

We will be in Mount Sion GAA club again and look forward to seeing as many as possible come along on the night and join in the celebrations.

Merry New Year

The Road Runner organisers would like to thank The Munster Express for their continued support over the years, we certainly would not have the audience we have now without Emma and Mickey’s help. So, to Emma and Mickey, John Walsh, Darren and Peter at the RSC, our main sponsor Darryl Hale of Alfie Hale’s Intersport and all those who have taken part over the years so far, we extend the very best of wishes for a happy and healthy 2009.
