Robert Staunton and Collette Tuohy win Claregalway 10K. On Saturday 14-August Clare River Harriers (CRH) A.C. held its 22nd annual 10K (6.2 miles) road race. Weather conditions were perfect and the race was a tremendous success with well over 200 runners taking to the roads around Claregalway. This race also incorporated the Galway County AAI 10K Road championships for 2010. The race was sponsored by the Central Tavern in Loughgeorge. In memory of the late Brendan Gavin of Loughgeorge, Clare River Harriers Athletic Club donate 5 euro from each race entry to the Galway Hospice and this year’s race contributed €1,210 to Galway Hospice. The overall winner of the 2010 Claregalway 10K was Robert Staunton (GCH) in a time of 34 minutes and 21 seconds, Tony Scanlan (GCH) was second and Brian O’Connor (Athenry AC) was third. Colette Tuohy won the ladies race in a time of 39:06. Veronica Colleran (Ennis Track Club) was second and Eimear Butler (Athenry AC) was third.
In the men’s veteran classification, Gerry Carty (GCH) won the over 40 section with Paoraig Brennan in second place. Dermot Lowe (GCH) won the over 45 section with Martin Corcoran (Craughwell AC) in second place. Enda Burke (Tuam AC) won the over 50 section with Martin Noone in second place. Martin O’Donnell (Clare River Harriers) won the over 55 section with John Mac Sweeny (GCH) in second place.
The ladies over 35 section was won by Helen Corbett (GCH) with Sinead Forde in second place.
Galway City Harriers won the men’s team event with Craughwell AC in second place and Athenry AC in third. Galway City Harriers won the ladies team event with Athenry AC in second.
