The Cork Association for Autism (CAA) will be holding a 5km Blue Balloon Fun Run & Walk in Blackrock on Sunday August 31st. It will begin at 11am from Páirc Uí Chaoimh and the scenic route will take participants along the old railway line and back by the water finishing at Blackrock Castle. Blue balloons will be given out to all families which will be released at the finish line as a way of raising awareness of autism which recent studies have shown affects 1 in 100 individuals in Ireland. The demand for services at the CAA is continuing to grow which is why they are relying on this event as a way of raising funds for essential repair and building work at the CAA’s service centres.
Services which are provided by the CAA include residential, respite, day service, home support and an Asperger Syndrome Support service. 192 families rely greatly on these support services.
Entry is €15 per adult or €5 for children under 12. Participants can register at the CAA fundraising office on 18 Cook St., Cork City with entry being free if you pre-register and collect a sponsorship card. Alternatively you can register from 9.30am on the day of the event at Páirc Uí Chaoimh. Light refreshments will be provided after the event.
