
from the AAI website There were several very close finishes at the AAI Games held at Athlone IT today. One of the closest came in the men’s 400m hurdles where Avron Alexandre (Crusaders AC) ran a great race to win in 54.52 from Jonathon Miller (Dundrum South Dublin AC) in 54.57, with Gerard O’Donnell (Carrick on Shannon AC) breathing down their necks in third place in 54.74. The men’s 400m produced another blanket finish with Brian Murphy (UCC AC) winning in 48.23 from Gordon Kennedy (Tullamore Harriers) in 48.40 and Nick Hogan (Dundrum South Dublin AC) in 48.43.
Claire Begin (Dundrum South Dublin AC) dominated the 100m, winning in 11.90 with a negative wind reading of -0.5.
Bergin made it a double when she ran away with the 400m in a time of 54.59, well clear of Joanna Paterson (Ballymena & Antrim) in 56.27 and Laura Crowe (An Riocht) 56.41.
Darragh Graham (Sli Chualann AC) won the first of four 100m races in 10.95, with Ciaran McDonagh (Fr. Murphy’s AC) just behind in 11.09. Fastest time of the day was in the third race where Steven Colvert (Crusaders AC) was first over the line in 10.91, while Dean Adams (Ballymena & Antrim AC) won race 2 in 11.03.
Graham was also fastest over 200m when he won the first race in 22.06.
Mark Hanrahan (Leevale AC) closely followed pacemaker Anthony Leighio for two laps before taking over the lead and then raced on strongly to win comfortably in a time of 3:49.30, with Conor Healy (Clonliffe Harriers AC) second in 3:51.57.
Barry Killeen (Crusaders AC) had a good win in the hammer, throwing 63.56 in the third round.
Before the start of competition Eamon Coghlan performed the opening ceremony of the new Mondo facility.
