Local community getting ready to welcome MonsterMAC participants Ireland’s newest adventure race, www.monstermac.ie is a unique multisport race challenge attracting elite athletes, runners and beginner joggers from all over Ireland to North Cork’s Duhallow Way. As the community of Millstreet wondered “Why Millstreet” for MonsterMAC, Marie Griffin, Managing Director at Summit Focus Ltd and founder of MonsterMAC explained. “I’m from the north Cork area myself and when I recently discovered the unspoilt Boggeragh Mountain area around the Millstreet Country Park, I knew we had found the perfect venue for this adventure race”.
So she called in her experts Hilary Jenkinson and Paul Mahon, Race Directors: Says Mahon: “The course offers challenge and ample reward for all participants with the unspoilt scenery, off road hiking, on road biking and kayak element to finish. You can expect a warm local welcome and of course there’s a huge sense of achievement of making it to the finish line for those doing it for the first time.”
With two levels of challenge available, Mahon went on to explain: “The second hill run section for those attempting the EXPERT level promises to be one of the most scenic and challenging sections over a distance of 10km off road and incorporates some significant climbing along the Duhallow Way and of course the topping out at 644m on the Summit of Musheramore before an exhilarating descent to transition and the final bike leg.”
Says Griffin: “With archaeological features, red deer, shepards hut, stone circle complexes, vintage cars, biking, hiking and kayaking around a crannog lake, this adventure race is definitely unique for the athletes while also offering spectators a great opportunity to see bike transitions, kayaking and finish line all from one viewing spot”.
