
from Bandon AC website Róisin Howard was the only athlete from Bandon AC competing at AAI Senior Indoor Combined Events and Relays Saturday 10th January. She competed in 5 disciplines, hurdles, long jump, shot, high jump and 800m which accumulated the points to bring her to second place overall. Three club members competed at AAI Masters Indoor Championships Nenagh Sunday 11th January. Liz Coomey took the gold in the 200m and won silver medals for the shot, long jump, high jump and 60m. Priscilla O’Sullivan came in fourth place in the shot. Pat Mulcahy won a bronze medal in the 200m and came fourth in the 60m.
Kevin Wilmot and Tom Laffan came in 17th and 18th respectively at the Mallow Athletic Club 10 mile road race on Sunday 11th January. Tom ran in a time of 57.17 and came first in the M40 category. Louise Cavanagh was 2nd in the F40 section. Tom Sheehan, Matthew Geden and Seán Murphy also ran well on the day.
The Munster Senior and Junior Indoor Championships took place in Nenagh on January 4th. At junior level Róisín Howard won silver in the long and high jumps and bronze in the 200m. She was fourth in the shot. Ronan Duggan was second in the Senior Men 1500m. Priscilla O’Sullivan was fourth in the senior shot.
The Annual Donough Coughlan Road Race took place on Sunday 28th January. Entries this year at 140, were up on last year. The race was won by Sean McGrath of East Cork AC. Carmel Crowley was the first women home. Kevin Wilmot of Bandon was third. Tim Lucey was first over 40 and Phil Murphy was second over 45.
The Belgooly 4 mile road race on St Stephen’s day always attracts a large entry and Bandon athletes turned out in force on the day. Tom Laffan was 7th overall. Tom Sheehan, Paddy Murphy, Sean Murphy, Kevin Wilmot, Pat O’Sullivan and Philip Crowley all ran for the club.
The Cork County International Awards night takes place at the Vienna Woods Hotel on Friday 16th January. It is anticipated that a number of athletes from the Club will receive awards on the night.
Next Saturday sees the AAI Juvenile Combined Events in Nenagh on Saturday 17th January, and, on the following day, the Munster Senior and Junior Cross Country Championships and Inter County Relays in Dungarvan. Both Carmel Crowley and Louise Cavanagh have been selected to run as part of the Cork County Team in the senior event.
Registration for the 2009 season is currently taking place on Club training nights. All athletes are requested to renew their membership as soon as possible in order to make them eligible to compete and train for the forthcoming season.
