Athlone’s first annual South West Hospice/AIT 5km run

0

from Galway City Harriers The first annual South West Hospice/AIT 5km charity run was held today in Athlone. Perhaps inspired by the London Marathon, 100 or so people lined up at 3pm in the Athlone Institute of Technology. The race was started by Irish comedian Tommy Tiernan and the undulating course finshed with 2 laps of the new running track. There were a few teething problems with marshalling but Im sure this ia a race which will develope and grow over the next few years.
Two other runners from GCH were Ian Egan and Fit for Lifer, Liz Keevy. The official results can be found tomorrow on www.athlone5.com but for the moment the unofficial ones are;

Ian Egan 16.38* (6th male)
Jane campbell 20.20 (2nd female)
Liz Keevy 25.12
* Hopefully I’m not too way out with Ian’s time…or Liz’s name!
