ard na Speire
ard na Speire is a 10km and 4km run/walk in Kilclare, Carrick on Shannon, Co. Leitrim to raise much needed funds for the Mater Heart Foundation. The Mater is currently trying to raise money to improve the screening methods used on families who have lost a family member due to Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS). Currently this area of research is not funded or even partially funded by the government, therefore the Mater Heart Foundation relies entirely on donations to improve the screening of families.
26 year old Sandra died suddenly at her home while routinely getting prepared to get her 3 kids ready for the day at Drumbranned, Kilclare just ten weeks after the death of our own mother Teresa also (SADS). She leaves behind fiance Barry and three beautiful daughters – Latisha aged 7, Jodie aged 5 and Layla aged 3. It is in Sandra’s memory that we hope to raise this money.
As a member of the Kiltubrid Ladies football team she also played at schools level and had been on the Leitrim Senior panel. Sandra was widely known for her bubbly personality and was to be seen regularly along the roads of Kilclare either walking or running (Where the run will take place) always quick to stop to have a word and a chat with neighbours and friends.
