Last chance to register for 9th Coaching Forum The National Coaching and Training Centre (NCTC) in partnership with the Irish Sports Council (ISC) and Sport NI will launch an all-island coaching strategy at the 9th Coaching Forum in Dublin City University (DCU) on 13th and 14th September. The coaching strategy will provide a framework for raising the standard and status of coaching in Ireland. The strategy was developed following a comprehensive consultation process with national governing bodies of sport, coaches and athletes.

In a joint statement the ISC and Sport NI announced “This initiative represents the beginning of a new level of partnership that will allow the two agencies to initiate joint planning for National Governing Bodies. This new approach will lead to greater synergies for governing bodies in developing and sustaining their sports through targeted investment and support”.

The forum will also see the re-branding of NCTC to Coaching Ireland which will be an all-island body with responsibility to implement the strategy. Both the Irish Sports Council and Sport NI will strongly encourage National Governing Bodies to engage with Coaching Ireland to ensure the successful implementation of this strategy for the benefit of coaching and sport on the island of Ireland.

The theme of the Coaching Forum is “Developing Decision Makers in Sport” and the purpose is to re-examine the approach we take to coaching. The forum will also look at the approach an athlete should take to their lifestyle.

The forum has an exciting line up of national and international presenters including; Antoni Girod, Professor of Applied Psychology currently working with elite athletes; Dr Lynn Kidman, lecturer in Coaching Studies; Packie Bonner, Technical Director of the FAI; Eugene Young, Director of Coaching and Games Development with the Ulster Council; and Gerry Hussey, Psychologist to the Irish Boxing Squad.

Olympic medallist, Darren Sutherland will co-present with Dr Giles Warrington, Head Sports Physiologist to the Olympic Council of Ireland and together they will examine the lifestyle challenges which Darren faced in the lead into the games.
