The 2nd annual Western People West of Ireland Womens Mini Marathon has now been launched. It takes place at the Mall Castlebar on Sunday May 1st. Last year approx 3000 women took to the streets of Castlebar for a hugely successful event. There were over 60 charities involved and it is estimated that over €500,000 was collected for charity. Organisers of the event are The Western People Newspaper in conjunction with Mayo Sports Partnership. The event is open to Walkers, Joggers and more serious runners. Last years winner was Lucy Brennan, Sligo AC, runner up was Catherine Conway Mayo AC and Third was Mary Gleeson Mayo AC. The Mini Marathon starts at 12 noon sharp and it is recommended that participants get to Castlebar early to avoid the rush.
