Tuam 8k & W’end Round-Up

from GCH website The Tuam 8k took place this afternoon over the traditional 2-lap route, where the windy conditions made it a tough run for most. The GCH men had a good day with Gary Thornton winning.

We’ll be watching out for Gary in the Southern Cross-Country in England in a couple of weeks time and wish him the best of luck in that. Matthew Bidwell, Robert Staunton and Ian Egan all finished in the top 8, making GCH the top men’s team on the day. The conditions didn’t bother Paul Fallon who had a great run in 29:37 to win his category.

Martin McEvilly also took home the silverware and it was good to see both John Devlin and Regina Casey back in racing action and not too far off the pace either. Alan O’Brien and Michael Costello are also getting back into action over the shorter distances after their autumn marathon exploits, while Michael Collins led the GCH Fit4Life contingent home. Adrienne Walsh and Mary Doyle both had good times with only seconds separating them at the finish. The results are here: https://www.redtagtiming.com (also attached below)

Meanwhile, GCH’s lone senior athlete in action in the Novice Cross-Country was Helen Corbett, who had a very decent run finishing well inside the top half of the 122 strong field. This National experience will surely stand her well for the rest of the cross-country season. Loughrea’s Laura Shaughnessy was 5th in the same race. We’ll have full details of how all the Juveniles got on in the coming days.
