The Adventure Capital of Ireland Take the Pinnacle Challenge and push yourself to the final limits in 2010 on Saturday November 13 with the inaugural ‘Westport Sea2Summit (S2S) Adventure Race’! As the last Adventure Race in the country for 2010, sports and adventure race enthusiasts of all fitness levels are invited to participate in the ultimate sporting challenge centred around the majestic setting of Croagh Patrick and bustling town of Westport, the adventure capital of Ireland.

Catering for beginner, intermediate and advanced athletes the event is being organised by the Westport Plaza & Castlecourt Hotels.

The inaugural Westport Sea2Summit Adventure Race is designed to suit all levels of fitness and interests with a mix of road running, cycling and a mountain hike including the challenging terrain of Croagh Patrick with the backdrop of Clew Bay. It will finish with a short sea run and small obstacle challenge before finishing at the Fairgreen. This challenge offers participants a choice of two routes; the Supreme Event which offers all of the intensity of the ultimate Adventure Race or the Spirit Event which will certainly appeal to those of relative fitness yet wanting to challenge themselves and push their personal fitness levels. The S2S Supreme Relay Event will take place over the same route and at the same time as the Solo S2S Supreme race. Teams will be of three people and they will share the disciplines in whatever they wish.

Padraig Marrey, overall winner of both the Gael Force and the Achill Roar adventure races is race director for the Sea2Summit event, bringing his expertise and knowledge to the event. “So far interest in the S2S has been overwhelming with places for both races filling up fast. Natives of Westport town to athletes across Ireland have already signed up. Plans are already underway to ensure Sea 2 Summit becomes an inaugural event for Westport and is certainly a date to mark in your diary” explains Marrey.

Over 300 contestants along with partners and friends are expected to descend upon Westport throughout the weekend. The Westport Plaza & Castlecourt Hotel Resort is the hub and HQ of the Westport Sea 2 Summit. On the Friday evening in the Castlecourt Hotel, Padraig Marrey will give a free motivational talk to all race participants which should create a great buzz before the race. The race begins at the Resort and the prize giving and after party is hosted in the Resort. Competitors can share their experience of the race and celebrate with their partners after completing the challenging S2S.

For partners, this presents an excellent opportunity to relax, unwind and be pampered in the fantastic facilities of the resort. Browse the wonderful shops in Westport and be there at the finish line to congratulate all the worthy participants as they cross the line!
