PERFECT NIGHT FOR RUNNING A WORLD JUNIOR QUALIFYING TIME

0

from Donore Harriers website The third Dublin graded meet of the season was held tonight in Santry Stadium and proved very fruitful for John Travers as he smashed his PB for 3,000m and grabbed a World Junior Qualifying time on the way. John ran a great race and was looking good tucked in behind Tallaght AC athlete Sean Connolly with 2 laps to go. Travers made his move on the penultimate lap and clinched the race convincingly from Connolly, posting a time of 8 mins 09 secs, well inside the World 5K qualifying time of 8.15 over 3K. His previous two recent outings provided him with a PB of 8.22 and a 8.23 but sub 8.15 was always on his mind. If there was any night perfect for track running tonight was the night. A new track in Santry, a mild night with zero wind, combined with a well paced race by Feidhlim Kelly of Raheny Shamrocks and great competition set the scene. Lee Van Haeften also had a wonderful race posting a PB of 8.34.

Also on the night Mark Dooley ran a very strong race in the Mile and was delighted with his win and a PB of 4.23. Darren Kelly also competed earlier in the evening in the 400m. Official results and times have not been posted yet.

Well done lads, great running and plenty more to come over the season.
