from Donore Harriers website The longest running race in European got underway at 11am this morning with Arthur Connick taking to the start line as the first handicapper.
The sun was out and the recent spate of very cold weather eased up to provide near perfect racing condition, although there was still some ice underfoot. The five two-mile laps were well supported by Donore members through-out.
As usual the last lap saw a number of changes in positions as athletes caught up and passed out one another. The honours ended up going to last year’s runner-up Fred Kiernan who ran a great race finishing in a 10-mile time of 63 mins 23 secs. The fastest lady was Anne Curley who finished in 66 mins 4 secs.

Thanks to all the organisers for a great St. Stephen’s day race yet again. Particular mention goes to Iain Morrison and Willie Dunne for doing up the handicaps; Susan Walsh and Joe Rankin for manning the bar afterwards; and to the starter Albert Prenderville.
