From Brian Crinion New on the calendar for 2009 are the DublinTri Series of Triathlons taking place in Kilcock and Skerries . They’re being run by Belpark Triathlon Club, who stage TriAthy and the Duathlon Series.
The three main reasons for competing in the DublinTri Series are : Triathlons with a focus on beginners
The short swim and easy course in Kilcock is an ideal beginner’s event. Skerries is slight step up in both swim distance and cycling difficulty, with the ‘Black Hill’ to be climbed, before the easy promenade run.
An short early season triathlon to build up you race speed
Kilcock is just a week before the PB bashing that’s expected in triAthy and it’s the first open water race of the season, so it’s expected that all the new toys will be on show (ie. stupidly expensive bike with more carbon fibre than a F1 car).
Developing ‘up and coming’ talent
Currently there is no stepping stone for Irish Triathletes between domestic non-drafting races and elite international races. The DublinTri Series will have a draft legal triathlon (as well as the larger non-drafting Triathlon). Belpark Triathlon Club are aiming to giving ‘up and coming’ athletes a chance to practice racing under the draft-legal format before representing Ireland at International Triathlons.
