TriAthy Ireland In 2008 Fraser Cartmell (Scotland) crossed the TriAthy finish line in a time of 1:47:35. Doing so, he not only smashed the Irish all-comers record, but also set the fastest Olympic distance time in Western Europe. Cartmell will be back again this year to race Ireland No. 1 male triathlete; Gavin Noble. Both have been training together in South Africa over the winter, so they will know their strength and weaknesses intimately. The women’s race it’s wide open. The clever money would go to World Duathlon Champion Catriona Morission (Scotland), however Ireland’s rising star in Aileen Morisson (no relation) has just finished 6th in a competitive field at International Triathlon Union race; Portugal.
“Every aspect of this course has been built for speed; from the flat, straight, tree sheltered bike and run courses to the transitions, which Rich Stannard (England) raced through in 30seconds,” said event director and former Irish Champion Brian Crinion. Saturday the 30th of May is race day for anybody looking to set an Olympic distance PB or simply looking for an easy course for their first ever triathlon. TriAthy is hosed at historic White’s Castle on the banks of the river Barrow in Athy, Co. Kildare.
Both the classic Olympic Distance Triathlon 1500m swim, 40km cycle and 10km run and the shorter Sprint Distance Triathlon 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run will take place. Entries are now over 2000 for this year’s triathlon, with up to 2500 expected to compete on the day.
