Also, at the BHAA North County Farmers CC in Swords, a K O’Connor running for UCD finished in 4th place overall – presumably that was DSD’s Kevin O’Connor.
DSD in West Waterford 10 mile
Sunday, 01 February 2009
DSD had great results in the West Waterford AC 10 miler today. With John Eves 4th; Evan Scully 7th; Mark Conway 16th; and Eoin McCormack 45th. That gave John an individual prize and the other three made up the winning team, and so collected the team prize. A good raid of the south east.
U20 Indoor Championships, Nenagh
Report by Liz & Photos by Gerry Kavanagh
Three athletes from D.S.D. travelled to Nenagh on Saturday for U.20 championships and all three came home with medals: Sinead Denny, Mark Kavanagh, and Joseph Dowling.
Sinead Denny finished 3rd in the U.20 women’s race with a time of 2.21. This was a good performance for Sinead after running in the U.23 Celtic Cross Country in Cardiff last week.
Joe Dowling (U.17) was 3rd in the men’s U.20 400m registering times of 52.36 and 52.83. This was a great performance by Joe, who only went to Nenagh to gain experience for his own age group.
Mark Kavanagh (U.18) also travelled down to gain indoor experience in the U.20 event and ran a great final to take silver in the 200m with times of 23.23 and 23.31, Mark was also 4th in the 60m registering 7.32 and 7.34.
Joe & Mark both drew lane one in the final, which made their performances even better still!
Well done to all!.
Deirdre Ryan sets new HJ Record
Big congratulations to Deirdre Ryan on breaking the Irish High Jump record in Germany on Sunday 18th January. Deirdre cleared 1.93m which improves on her former indoor record of 1.90m set in Glasgow in 2005.It also betters her outdoor record of 1.92m set in Manchester back in 2005. 1.93m is the “B” standard for the World Championships in Berlin in August and is only 2 cms off the “A” standard. Great to see Deirdre jumping high again!
