Faster route almost eliminates the Causeway. The Elverys Sports Galway Bay Half Marathon & 10K route is famous for two things – the breathtaking scenery and the fast flat course. The new route which was unveiled on Friday evening has been welcomed by the events Facebook fans as news that the difficult Causeway has been almost eliminated was shared on-line. Running a path right out into the sea and back again sounds majestic but anyone who has done the Galway Bay before will tell you that even on the calmest day the sea breezes will fight you all the way.
Galway City Council and the businesses in Salthill have done a brilliant job restoring the beautiful Salthill coastline following the storms in early January and the route looks even better than before.
The 10K Route starts at the Claddagh and runs along closed roads through Salthill, past Gentian Hill and returns along the road to Blackrock. Back down the Promenade to Grattan Road with a short 400 meters up and back on the Causeway before finishing back at South Park.
The Half Marathon Route starts at the Claddagh, one full lap of South Park first and then two full laps of the 10K course.
The course is great for new runners who want to avoid hills and it’s even better for fast runners who are looking for a personal best!. The scenery is breathtaking with spectacular views of the Clare mountains across Galway Bay and the wild Atlantic Ocean. Come for the weekend – there is too much to see and do in just a day!
The event takes place on Saturday 4th October – with just less than four weeks to go the 10K is already close to selling out.
