
from Athletic Northern Ireland Maeve Kyle of Ballymena and Antrim AC was last night inducted into the RTÉ/The Irish Sports Council’s Hall of Fame. Maeve as a former Irish Olympic athlete and Irish hockey player was deemed a very worthy recipient of this award which is presented to an Irish sporting veteran each year. Maeve has paved the way for many of Ireland’s female sprinters having competed in 3 Olympic Games in sprint events and by taking a bronze in the 400m at the 1966 European Indoor Athletics Championships in Dortmund.
Her sporting ability however did not stop at the track as she also competed for Ireland in hockey gaining 58 Irish caps. The award was also presented in recognition of her work as coach and mentor at the Ballymena and Antrim Athletics Club who won UK club in 2008.
