
Great ‘Buzz’ to first of the Regional Squad Sessions for 2008/2009 133 athletes attended the Munster Regional Squad Day in Cork IT on Saturday last, November 15th. Coaching was given by Regional Squad Coaches in 11 different events and there were a good number of athletes in each event group. Rob Heffernan gave a very informative and entertaining talk to the participants during the lunch break at the Squad Session and the Walkers were lucky enough to have Rob coaching them for their session.
There were almost 30 Personal Coaches in attendance and they were all encouraged to join in to the various event sessions and to ask questions etc of the Coaches. The next Munster Squad session is on Saturday December 13th in the University of Limerick.
Entusuiastic Response to Coach Education Courses in Castleisland
23 Coaches embarked upon their Level 2 Coach qualification in Castleisland on November 7th and 8th. Coaches came from both Cork and Kerry and despite the weather all the Endurance and Jumps elements of the Level 2 course were comprehensively covered by the particiaptns. Many of the participating Coaches contributed to their specialist areas in what led to a good exchange of knowledge over the weekend. The coaches will tehn complete either the Speed or the Throws elements of the course on their next weekend in Cork IT on December 6th and 7th.
13 Coaches also completed their Assistnat coach Course on Saturday November 8th in Castleisland. All the participants said they enjoyed the practical elements of the course and again the exchange of ideas and knowledge with the other participants proved a very valuable element of the course also.
