from Donore Harriers website Donore Harriers had a very successful outing on Sunday 12th October at the Dublin Intermediate Cross Country Championships in Tymon Park.
The Ladie’s race got underway at 1pm with Niamh O’Boyle from Donore going out with the leading pack from the start. All five team members settled into a steady pace and managed to pick off a number of places as the race progressed. Niamh fought her way up from 4th position in the second lap and gritty determination resulted in the individual silver medal. Following close behind was Norma Harnedy who worked her way through the field and finished in great style in 5th place. Demonstrating good team work, Caroline and Julia Hackett stayed in close proximity throughout the race and ended up in 11th and 14th respectively. Nicola Fitzsimons completed the five member team, running a solid and consistent pace and finished in 23rd place. The excellent placings resulted in the Ladie’s Team taking the gold medal.

At 1:30pm the men started out on the 8km four-lap course. An injection of pace early on saw a split develop between the leading runners. New Donore recruit Eoin Rowen managed to stay upfront and ran a terrific race, crossing the line in 6th place. Ken Norgrove also had a great run and finished in 20th place, made all the more impressive by the fact that this was his first cross country race. The remaining two team members were Phillip Cavanagh who finished in 25th and Danny Crean in 29th. The combined team placings meant a 4th team position, and with a total of 80 points the team were just 2 points shy of the bronze medal.

Earlier in the day round 2 of the Juvenile Cross Country league was held from 10.30 AM on and there was some good performances for Donore athletes. Details are as yet unknown but we’ll try to get the results posted soon.

Also, in County Kildare, Karen Woods finished in an impressive second place in the Coilte 10km in a time of 41 minutes. Further afield, Karen McLaughlin was running in the Munich Marathon and finished in a superb time of 3:48. Well done to the two Karens.

Finally a big thank you to all who came, supported and enjoyed our Race Night on Friday evening.
