from Athletics Northern Ireland Last night 34 Athletes of all disciplines attended the launch of this year’s Talent Development 2012 squad in the High Performance Centre’s Indoor Athletics Area at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown. The Talent Development Programme is a scheme run by the ANI in conjunction with the SINI athletics programme. The programme is designed to help athletes who wish to aspire to reach their full athletic potential and will go on to compete at the highest level.
Athletes and parents were given the chance to find out what the programme has to offer and what types of sessions will be delivered.
The squad athletes spent their first evening getting to know others from different clubs and events and also got the chance to take part in a taster session which included a selection of testing activities.
Over the next few weeks squad athletes will benefit from:
• A fully coordinated and professionally planned programme to suit individual needs.
• Access to High Performance Centres indoor facilities at Jordanstown.
• An integrated strength and conditioning programme.
• Access to physio support.
• Fast-tracked SINI entry if showing signs of development and the ability to reach the appropriate SINI standards
Athletes will take part in a variety of sessions which will offer help and advice on nutrition, lifestyles, technical aspects, core stability, injury prevention & training advice.
Training continues in the Indoor Athletics Area on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7pm-8pm for squad members with the Endurance Athletes attending the Indoor area on Tuesday evening and the Mary Peters’ Track on Thursday evenings from 7pm-8pm.
